Chapter 22: Salt is Faithfulness

Salt is a preservative, and God's faithfulness preserves His children.  And the Son asked His children to be salt of the earth.  For the salt is our faithfulness.  And His children are faithful even unto death.

'Then the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven, and He overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. But his wife, from behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.' (Genesis 19:24-26) Salt has two natures it preserves and destroys. Salt preserves man and the Word through faith. But as Lot's wife proved by her lack of faith, our faith can be trampled and destroyed. In the days of our forefathers, salt was a commodity more valuable than gold. And as a follower of God, faith is a commodity more valuable than gold. (1 Peter 1:7) Salt serves two purposes, it functions as a preservative and as a seasoning. And salt acts as a preservative by protecting our food, from microorganisms which are destroyed by the salt. And faith preserves bread which is Word of God, by shielding us from the 'arrows of the evil one.' (Ephesians6:16) And salt acts as seasoning by enhancing the flavor of food. And faith seasons our speech of God, and enhances the Word of God. (Colossians 4:6) When God made a covenant with His people, He made them a covenant of salt. (Number 18:19) For by giving them the salt of the earth, He gave them His faithful promise, that His people would inherit the promised land, if they would keep His covenant. 'Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' (Exodus 19:5-6) And by His covenant of faithfulness, He promised His people that He would return, and He and His people would rule all the nations. 'Behold, a king will reign righteously. And princes will rule justly.' (Isaiah 32:1)
